Do you find that one morning when you get up, without any reason, you are just feeling ugly? If it happens even two or three times a year, there are certain things you must do before you go to bed. It is very important.
You can unconsciously incubate a lot of either negative or positive things in sleep very effectively, in an uninterrupted way. If you wake up feeling really nasty for simply no reason, you are incubating bad eggs in the night very efficiently. Over time, this is not just psychological it can cause major physiological problems.
Take a shower
Always shower before you go to bed it makes a lot of difference. In cold weather, a lukewarm shower; never a hot shower at night. It is not just the dirt on the skin you take away. Over seventy percent of the body is water; when water flows over it, a certain purification happens that is beyond cleaning the skin.
Don't sleep right after a meal
If you are eating meat and other heavy meals, eat at least three to four hours before bed so digestion is over. Drink a little water before sleeping, and the system takes care of itself.
Light a lamp
Light one organic oil lamp with a cotton wick linseed, rice-bran, sesame, or olive oil somewhere in the room where you sleep. You will see many disturbances simply disappear.
Remember that time is running out
Sit on your bed as if it were your deathbed and you had one more minute to live. Look back was today worthwhile? If you know you are truly mortal, you will have no time to be angry or to quarrel. You will do only what you truly care for.
Keep things aside
In the last three minutes, keep aside everything you have gathered the body, the content of the mind, the small things. Sleep as life, not as a man or woman, not as this and that. Simply keep everything down.
Do not "head north"
In the northern hemisphere, do not put your head to the north when you sleep. The magnetic pull of the planet draws blood toward the brain in a horizontal position. In Australia, do not put your head to the south. Any other direction is fine.

Sleep as a platform for aliveness
We want to use sleep as a platform for awakening to become one with all that is real, not as a way to become inert, dead, and away from all that is real. Improving sleep quality does not mean sleeping like a stone. It is about sleeping in a live manner being awake and asleep at the same time.
If you bring even a small percentage of this element into your sleep, you will naturally become meditative over a period of time. Meditation, not as an act but as a quality, will become a part of your existence.
